In Prague, the block structure stands out as a strong urban typology characterized by human scale, mixed-use programs, balanced density, and architectural diversity.

Typical blocks in the Vysočany district consist of buildings of approximately six storeys, with commercial ground floors and residential units above. This structure supports vibrant street life while interior courtyards function as semi-public and semi-private spaces, each offering a distinct atmosphere.

The design approach aims to reinforce the character of the historical block structure while establishing a coherent relationship with the surrounding urban fabric. One of the key starting points of the project is the existing building on the site. As the structure has not yet fulfilled its potential, the proposal suggests preserving and transforming it rather than demolishing it. From a sustainability perspective, this strategy provides both environmental and economic benefits.

The architectural concept is based on the dialogue between the renovation of the existing building and the introduction of new elements. Relationships between the building masses are established through public courtyards and active ground-floor uses. Commercial spaces at street level attract not only local residents but also visitors from other parts of the city, contributing to a lively urban environment.

Courtyards within the block are designed with different characters. Green courtyards function as calm urban oases, while others host more active uses such as workshops, production spaces, or cultural programs, reflecting the industrial heritage of Vysočany.
