The original texture and spirit of the stone house have been carefully preserved, with new interventions harmonized with the rural context. The dilapidated barn was repurposed as a living space using wooden materials, seamlessly blending with the natural surroundings. The roof was covered with thatch, creating a timeless aesthetic in dialogue with its environment.
This renovation preserves the historic character of the stone house while introducing thoughtful spatial improvements for contemporary living, ultimately enhancing the building’s sense of belonging to its place.
The ground floor was reorganized to establish a stronger relationship between the living spaces and the courtyard, while the bedrooms were positioned on the upper floor. To adapt to the site’s slope, terraces were introduced into the landscape design, and this level differentiation was reflected in the wooden extension.
A shallow reflecting pool was placed along the courtyard boundary, enhancing the serene atmosphere of the natural surroundings. The water’s reflective quality adds visual depth to the space, fostering an emotional connection to the landscape.
